Thailand, beyond the checklist.
City mornings, a northern pause and time by the sea. Build a first trip that leaves room to enjoy it.

An editorial route suggestion. Transfer days count; transport, availability and your preferences determine what is practical.
- 01
Bangkok
3 daysStart with a gentle arrival and a few places you genuinely want to see. Group visits by neighbourhood and build a break into the hottest or busiest part of your day.
- 02
Chiang Mai
4 daysUse one base for your northern stay. Keep a mix of city time and a carefully chosen excursion. Verify the operator, transport and current conditions before booking activities.
- 03
Phuket
6 daysChoose the area where you want to stay before choosing individual beach days. Leave room for weather changes. An island excursion is optional; confirm transport and return times locally.
- 04
Departure buffer
1 dayKeep the final day for the actual journey home. Work backwards from your flight and allow for transfers. A separate flight or ferry booking is not a protected connection.
For 10 days: 3 in Bangkok, 3 in Chiang Mai, 3 in Phuket and 1 for departure. Transfers count within these days. For a slower trip, choose two bases instead of three.
Good things to know.
Choose your coast before filling the calendar
Thailand offers many different routes. This example uses Phuket as one coastal base; it does not mean every coast has the same weather or transport. Check the forecast, seasonal conditions and official advice for the exact places you plan to visit before committing to excursions.
Treat moving days as part of the trip
Moving between Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Phuket takes time beyond the flight or journey itself. Include checkout, getting to the terminal, baggage and reaching your next hotel. Keep a copy of your itinerary and confirm the airport named on each booking. Avoid stacking a non-refundable activity immediately after a transfer.
Keep everyday information close
Save your accommodation address in a form a local driver can use, alongside a map pin and check-in details. Check the pickup point before requesting transport. Keep a power bank charged and a small offline list of important addresses so that a flat phone or weak signal does not derail arrival.
Budget in baht, check the real fees
Thailand uses the baht (THB). Our country guide has a reference currency converter. Your actual bank, card or cash-exchange rate may differ and fees can apply. Plan a backup way to pay rather than depending on one card or an always-online app.
Prepare for beaches, transfers and variable signal
Download entertainment on Wi-Fi before long journeys. Keep photos backed up at a time that suits your data allowance rather than leaving large uploads unnoticed. A mobile plan that covers Thailand is not a promise of signal at sea or on every island. Check the provider’s network information for your specific stops.
A good eSIM fits the whole holiday
Count every day you need data, including departure and connection days. Read whether validity starts when you install or first connect. Check hotspot and fair-use rules on the exact bundle, particularly if you share data or work remotely. Keep the installation instructions available and do not delete an eSIM while troubleshooting unless the provider tells you to.

Daily assumptions: light 0.15 GB; regular 0.5 GB; heavy 1.5 GB. Total × 1.2, rounded up. Actual usage varies by app, quality and settings.
