Canary Islands in winter: do you need another eSIM? 2026–2027
A few beach days, a volcanic landscape and a phone that simply fits the trip. Before buying data for Tenerife, Gran Canaria or Lanzarote, check what your German tariff already provides in Spain.

Choose your actual flight dates. This is not a national school-holiday calendar or a sunshine forecast.
Spain is the first country to check
The Canary Islands are part of Spain. For a German mobile contract, check the included EU roaming data and any fair-use limit before adding another package. A domestic unlimited allowance does not automatically mean unlimited roaming data. If the allowance is sufficient, keep using it. UK or other non-EU contracts need their own provider check; language and departure airport do not determine your contract’s benefits.
One island or several? Keep the actual travel days
Our ten days are an editable example, not an average stay or a ferry timetable. If you move between Spanish islands, you do not need to invent separate countries in the planner. Count transfer days in the same validity window. Save accommodation and transfer details offline, and check the specific destination and network rather than assuming the island name alone confirms coverage.
Separate the beach budget from a laptop budget
Maps and messages can use a different budget from video calls or a laptop hotspot. Choose the profile below for one phone, then check whether tethering and your intended devices are permitted. A larger or “unlimited” package still needs confirmed validity and speed conditions. Do not buy additional data solely because an island holiday sounds international.

Planning estimate for one phone: 0.15, 0.5 or 1.5 GB/day, plus 20%, rounded up per stop. Hotspot use belongs in the same budget.

Sources & selection
ISTAC recorded Germany as 18.1% of arrivals to the islands in January 2026. This supports the relevance of a German winter guide, but is one month of visitor statistics, not an eSIM search-volume forecast.
