A summer road trip through Switzerland and France 2027
Include transit countries and understand the difference between EU roaming and a regional eSIM’s actual country list.

School region first, route second
The three Dutch summer breaks start and end on different dates. These are school windows, not a requirement to travel for six weeks. Our editable example is 14 days: one day in Germany, four in Switzerland and nine in France. Change the transit stops and durations to your actual itinerary.
Check your existing allowance before buying
For an eligible EU home subscription, occasional EU roaming normally follows domestic rates subject to fair-use rules. Check your exact allowance. Switzerland is not an EU member; do not infer inclusion from the word Europe. Your carrier may include it separately. An extra eSIM may be unnecessary for the EU legs.
Count the whole route, not just the longest stay
A regional plan must cover every included stop and the full combined duration. Its data allowance is shared across the covered countries, not renewed at each border. Keep streaming and family hotspot use in the budget for the device carrying the eSIM; separate phones may need separate plans.

Planning estimate for one phone: 0.15, 0.5 or 1.5 GB/day, plus 20%, rounded up per stop. Hotspot use belongs in the same budget.

CBS recorded France as the largest foreign summer destination for Dutch residents in 2025. Adding Switzerland and Germany is our editorial road-trip example, not a claim about that exact route’s popularity.
