Mexico for a Thanksgiving getaway 2026
A four-day example for a short escape, with a clear distinction between the federal holiday and your actual time off.

Confirm Friday before planning a long weekend
Thanksgiving falls on Thursday 26 November 2026 in the OPM federal calendar. Friday 27 November is not automatically a federal holiday, and schools and employers set their own arrangements. A Thursday-to-Sunday itinerary is our example only; confirm your leave and include both travel days.
Choose one base for four days
Choose a base around your real arrival airport and leave time for airport transfers. Save the accommodation address offline. Check current entry and travel requirements for your nationality with official authorities; this planner does not determine visa or passport eligibility.
Check whether Mexico is already in your US plan
Some home plans include neighbouring countries, but only your exact tariff confirms this. A US-only eSIM does not automatically cover Mexico. Check data, hotspot, calls and SMS separately. If you add another country to the trip, include it explicitly in the route rather than trusting a North America label.

Planning estimate for one phone: 0.15, 0.5 or 1.5 GB/day, plus 20%, rounded up per stop. Hotspot use belongs in the same budget.

Sources & selection
NTTO lists Mexico as the largest destination for US-citizen departures in July 2026. That monthly measure does not establish the most popular Thanksgiving destination. We pair a relevant general destination with an official holiday and practical cross-border checks.
